Wish Me Lucky

People have always dreamed of striking it lucky. The lure of gold is powerful, drawing men & women across the oceans to distant lands for hundreds of years. Hardship and deprivation haven't stopped them in the hunt for untold riches. And there's still luck to be had. At the beginning of July tourists at the Goldfields Mining Centre in Cromwell found a lump of gold worth $500. So whether you're searching for gold, buying a Lotto ticket, or making a wish, it pays to keep your hopes high.

Wish Me Lucky is a wishing well has been made with bars of sunlight soap. These represent all the gold bars found in Central Otago along with the ordinary items the miners needed that were to be found in the general store. Viewers can toss a coin into the well and make a wish. The more wishes that are made, the luckier it becomes.

Wish Me Lucky was part of the Good as Gold exhibition at Hullabaloo Art Space, Old Cromwell Town Heritage Precinct, from 15 July to 26 August 2012.
